Niger State Government Flags Off 2026 Wet Season Agricultural Inputs and Assets Distribution to Beneficiaries Under the NG-CARES Result Area 2
The Niger State government has officially launched the distribution of agricultural inputs and assets for the 2026 wet season to beneficiaries under the NG-CARES 2.0 Result Area 2 program.
This initiative aims to protect livelihoods, boost food production, support vulnerable households, and stimulate economic activities across communities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
Under this scheme, 15,922 farmers across Niger State will benefit, with 15,800 receiving production inputs and 122 receiving individual agricultural assets.
The inputs include 2,350 metric tons of fertilizer, 21.61 metric tons of improved rice seed, 102.95 metric tons of improved maize seed, and 15,600 liters each of herbicide and insecticide.
Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, the executive governor of Niger State, who initiated the distribution in Minna, stated that the program is a significant achievement for farmers in the state because it will help increase yields by the end of the wet season.
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, the farmer governor emphasized that the administration views agriculture not only as a way to feed the people but also as a path to wealth creation, employment, and sustainable economic development.
He also disclosed that the administration has supported the 2026 planting season with agricultural inputs and machinery across all 25 local government areas and has participated in the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Program, benefiting 20,160 farmers statewide.
Furthermore, the state has provided 132,000 bags of fertilizer at subsidized rates to farmers and supplied 10 tractors to each of the 25 local government areas to promote agricultural activities.
Dr. Adegoke Austin, the National Project Coordinator at the National FADAMA Coordination Office, described the event as a tangible demonstration of collective effort to enhance the resilience, productivity, and livelihoods of farmers and vulnerable community members. He reaffirmed that the FADAMA NG CARES program is dedicated to turning government initiatives into real benefits at the grassroots level.
Alhaji Shehu Kudu Mohammed, the State Project Coordinator for FADAMA NG-CARES Delivery Unit, remarked that NG-CARES 2.0 Result Area 2 aims to improve food security and the well-being of vulnerable households by providing productive assets and labor-intensive agricultural infrastructure. He commended the farmer governor for supporting these goals.
He added that beneficiaries are selected from three key agricultural value chains—rice, maize, sorghum, livestock, and fisheries—and that their inputs will be closely monitored for proper use.
Commissioner of Agriculture, Isah Sidi Rijau, acknowledged the valuable support of the farmer governor and said the program will significantly boost food productivity, household incomes, and overall food security across the state.
In separate goodwill messages, the Emir of Minna, represented by Karman Minna Alhaji Muhammad Kpotu Abdullahi, and the State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Manko, represented by Vice Chairman Muhammad Saba Usman, praised FADAMA and the state government for advancing the agricultural sector.
