BREAKING NEWS: State APC Chairman Solomon Collapses, Passes Away During Reconciliation Meeting
From Our Correspondent
Tragedy struck the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State on Friday when the party’s Chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, reportedly collapsed and died during a reconciliation meeting in Iyara.
Solomon was said to have fainted during the meeting at the Iyara Town Hall, the administrative center of Ijumu Local Government Area.
Efforts were made to provide first aid before he was hurried to a medical facility in neighboring Kabba. However, he was reportedly pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The cause of his death had not been determined at the time of this report.
The meeting, organized by former Ijumu Local Government Area Chairman Funsho Olumoko, was intended to address internal disagreements and align political interests among APC stakeholdes in the area.
It gathered political leaders, local government and ward officials, women and youth leaders, and government appointees representing the 15 wards of Ijumu.
The reconciliation effort followed an earlier stakeholders’ meeting in Iyara where APC members endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for second terms.
However, the earlier gathering reportedly ended in conflict over local government leadership, leading Solomon and some senior government officials to walk out.
Friday’s meeting was then called to bridge the gaps and foster unity within the party ahead of upcoming political activities.
Solomon’s sudden death has cast a shadow over the reconciliation efforts and raised questions about the party’s ongoing efforts to build its structure in Kogi West before the 2027 general elections.
As of this report, no official statement has been issued by the APC state leadership or local authorities regarding the incident.
