Niger State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, has conducted an unscheduled inspection of the newly remodelled facilities at the General Hospital, Minna, weeks after their official commissioning.
The surprise visit aimed to evaluate facility maintenance, staff compliance with clinical standards, and the overall impact of the upgrades on patient care following significant infrastructure investments by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
During his tour, Dr. Bagana inspected the Emergency Paediatric Unit, the Paediatric Medical Ward, and the Paediatric Surgical Ward. He engaged directly with hospital management, health workers, and patients to assess service delivery and waiting times.
Addressing hospital officials, the Commissioner emphasized that the state government’s investments must yield measurable improvements in healthcare delivery. He urged management to prioritize preventive maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure while maintaining high standards of clinical care.
Dr. Bagana also stressed the importance of prompt emergency triage to minimize patient delays and optimize medical outcomes. He assured staff that similar unannounced follow-up visits would continue across state health facilities to guarantee accountability and sustained performance.
In a compassionate gesture during the visit, the Commissioner provided direct financial support to several patients to assist with their medical bills.
The newly upgraded facilities at General Hospital, Minna, form part of the Niger State Government’s broader efforts to expand clinical capacity, improve diagnostic capabilities, and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the state.
