Niger State Condemns Mosque Attack in Borgu, Directs Security Agencies to Rescue Abducted Worshippers

By SB Aisha

The Niger State Government has issued a strong condemnation following an attack by suspected terrorists on the Gidan Zana and Kpenya communities in Borgu Local Government Area, where several worshippers were abducted during Juma’at prayers.

In an official statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nuhu Nana, the government described the assault as a grave violation of peace and security in the state.

Preliminary reports indicate that the armed invaders stormed the Kpenya Mosque during Friday prayers. While a number of worshippers managed to escape during the chaos, an unspecified group of victims was forcefully taken. Authorities noted that official verification is currently underway to determine the exact number of individuals abducted.

Following the incident, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago directed security forces across the region to intensify search operations, track down the perpetrators, and ensure the immediate, safe rescue of all captive residents.

The government appealed to members of the Borgu community and surrounding areas to remain calm, avoid circulating unverified reports, and promptly supply security agencies with actionable intelligence to support the ongoing operations.

Assuring the public of its resolve, the state government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding communities across Niger State.
