By Hajara Muhammad Sambo
In a major operational breakthrough, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (Joint Task Force North East), in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, have successfully dislodged a major Boko Haram/ISWAP stronghold and neutralized more than 21 terrorists in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The targeted clearance operation took place in the rugged Kopre Mountain area following actionable intelligence about terrorist activity in the region. Penetrating the difficult terrain, troops from the 226 Battalion—recently deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa State—launched a series of precise strikes on the fortified camp.
The strategic operation was specifically mounted to track, locate, and rescue victims abducted from Mussa community in May, as well as school children kidnapped from Lassa in June.
During two intense, separate direct engagements, the joint force neutralized over 21 insurgents, while several others escaped further into the surrounding forest with serious gunshot wounds.
Following the firefight, troops thoroughly dismantled the enclave and destroyed vital logistics infrastructure used by the terrorists, including motorcycles, bicycles, and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Items recovered from the site include multiple AK-47 rifles, fully loaded ammunition magazines, and significant quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
Mop-up operations and tactical pursuits remain active across the Kopre Mountain area to track fleeing insurgents and restore complete security to the surrounding communities.
