ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, officially display the personal particulars and credentials of candidates nominated by political parties for the upcoming governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 6, 2027.
According to the commission, the public display of the Form EC9 candidate submissions will take place across designated INEC state and local government area offices nationwide. The initiative is aimed at giving political parties, contesting candidates, and members of the public the opportunity to examine and verify the claims and credentials submitted by candidates.
The February 2027 governorship polls will be conducted in 28 states, including Niger, Lagos, Rivers, and Kano. The exercise excludes eight states—Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Bayelsa, Anambra, Imo, and Kogi—where governorship elections are run on off-cycle timelines. Meanwhile, elections for the State Houses of Assembly will hold across all 36 states of the federation.
INEC also reminded political parties fielding candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections that Saturday, August 29, 2026, serves as the final deadline for the submission of their official nomination lists. Following this submission window, the commission is slated to release the final authorized candidate list for the federal elections on September 12, 2026.
The commission reiterated its commitment to transparency throughout the 2027 general election cycle, urging all electoral stakeholders to utilize the display period for due diligence.
