PDP Governorship Candidate Muhammad Nami Pledges Action Plan to Restore Livelihoods, Dignity in Niger State
To mark the International Day of Rural Women, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Niger State gubernatorial election, Malam Muhammad Nami, has issued an urgent call to action, demanding comprehensive intervention to tackle the escalating security, economic, and humanitarian challenges confronting rural women across the state.
In a statement signed by the Nami Media Directorate, the governorship flagbearer stressed that symbolic commemorations must yield to tangible policy actions that secure farmlands, restore livelihoods, and guarantee safety for vulnerable agrarian communities.
Drawing attention to official reports indicating that over 300,000 residents across 10 Local Government Areas have been displaced by widespread armed banditry and terrorism, Nami underscored the severe impact of the crisis on women and children.
Many who previously drove the state’s local agricultural economy through farming, food processing, and trade now reside in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps or host communities with severely constrained resources.
”Rural women are the backbone of our agrarian economy, family stability, and food security. When violent displacement forces them off their lands, it imperils not only their survival but the economic future of our entire state,” Nami noted.
Outlining his vision to restore peace and economic vitality in Niger State, Nami unveiled a policy framework focused on six core pillars:
Strengthening grassroots intelligence networks, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and implementing rapid-response measures to safeguard agrarian settlements.
Establishing structured, secure pathways for displaced families to voluntarily return to their ancestral homes, coupled with public infrastructure reconstruction.
Expanding access to essential aid, including clean water, food supplies, healthcare services, menstrual hygiene products, and psychosocial support in IDP settings.
Supporting displaced and returning farmers through land access guarantees, agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers), modernized machinery, and low-interest credit facilities.
Promoting rural financial inclusion via agricultural cooperatives, vocational training centers, and micro-business capital grants.
Guaranteeing rural women direct participation in community decision-making and ensuring transparency in the allocation of public welfare funds.
Nami furthermore paid tribute to the resilience of rural women continuing to navigate severe socio-economic displacement across the state.
He reiterated his commitment to building a secure, self-sustaining Niger State where agrarian communities can thrive free from terror.
