Operatives of the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Central District Police have arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian man, Chidera Jonathan, with 23.74 grams of MDMA in New Delhi.
Jonathan was arrested on Wednesday at Civic Centre in the Kamla Market area following a tip-off about a Nigerian national allegedly involved in supplying drugs in the district, according to Indian news outlet The Hawk.
The police said Jonathan was also wanted under Operation VISTA, an initiative targeting foreign nationals allegedly staying in India after the expiration of their visas.
The report noted that Jonathan reportedly entered India in October 2024 on a medical visa as a medical attendant but remained in the country after his visa expired.
According to the police, Jonathan said that he obtained the alleged MDMA from another Nigerian identified as Prince, who was believed to be residing in Tughlakabad Extension, confessing that his involvement in drug trafficking was to raise money for his daily expenses.
