By Yahaya Zakka Minna
At least nine people were killed in a horrific head-on collision during the early hours of Sunday along the Bida–Kutigi–Mokwa road in Niger State.
The disaster occurred between the Lanle and Shaba Woro communities when a Mazda passenger vehicle traveling from Minna to Mokwa collided with an oncoming Toyota Sienna heading toward Minna from Lagos.
According to preliminary reports, the driver of the Mazda vehicle navigated into a blind curve, resulting in an immediate head-on impact with the oncoming Sienna.
An eyewitness at the scene reported counting nine fatalities on the spot. Several passengers who sustained severe injuries were evacuated to a nearby medical facility for emergency medical treatment.
A local resident, Malam Sachi Isah, issued an urgent appeal to motorists navigating the corridor:
”Drivers must exercise patience and caution, especially at sharp curves. Long-distance drivers should take mandatory rest stops to avoid fatigue-related crashes that continue to claim innocent lives on our highways.”
As of the time of filing this report, official traffic agencies and state authorities have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the crash.
